The Special Olympics program offers athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports and experience the power of sport to change lives. Through inclusive and supportive environments, athletes are encouraged to develop their skills, build confidence, and achieve their personal bests. Special Olympics fosters a sense of community, pride, and belonging, empowering individuals to reach their full potential both on and off the field. This initiative is not just about competition – it’s about changing perceptions, building inclusivity, and celebrating the abilities of all athletes.

Special Olympics is a global sports movement that unleashes the human spirit every day around the world through the transformative power and joy of sport. Through programming in sports, health, education and community building, Special Olympics is tackling the inactivity, stigma, isolation, and injustice that people with intellectual disabilities (ID) face. Special Olympics work goes far beyond sports events, driving social change that enables full social participation for people with ID.

Special Olympics offers 30-plus Olympic-style individual and team sports that provide meaningful training and competition opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities. Badminton is one of featured sports in the Special Olympics World Games. Badminton Europe is helping with the development of athletes, coaches and technical officials.
