Following the entertaining US Open last week, Calgary will be host for the Canada Open, which has attracted talent from a great mix of countries from around the globe. Matches start from today until Sunday 24th June.

From the European contingent, Mark Caljouw of the Netherlands, last week’s Men’s Singles finalist in California, will be hoping for much of the same this week. And the number 2 seed has been given a helping hand in this, as the Indian number 1 seed Sameer Verma has pulled out.

Building on the US Open
The number 1 seeds in the Men’s Doubles, English duo Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, will be hoping for better than last week’s quarter-final result. They lost to a young South Korean pair of Min Hyuk Kang and Kim Won Ho, the eventual beaten finalists. They look set to have another tough quarter-final match-up against the number 8 seeds Jason Ho-Shue and Nyl Yakura, who had an impressive semi-final run last week, and this time are playing in from of their home fans.

Similarly, Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith are number 1 seeds in the Mixed Doubles, and will hope to do better than their quarter-final result last week. The in-form German pair of Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich will look to one step further than their US Open semi-final.

More luck
In the Women’s Doubles, second seeds from the Netherlands, Selena Piek and Cheryl Seinen would like more luck with the draw across the border from the U.S., when following a bye, they came across former world number 1 Tang Jinhua and her new partner Yu Xiaohan, who subsequently were victorious. We also have the 2018 finalists in the European Championships, French pair Emilie Lefel and Anne Tran as third seeds. Who too will hope to re-kindle their form after a first round exit last week.
