During night time in Europe, the quarter finals of the Super 100 US Open were played. For Jenny Moore and Gregory Mairs (England) the USA Open part of their first Pan-American adventure has ended here. Next week their journey will continue at the Canada Open in Calgary.

Mairs and Moore started with a surprise by beating Dutch pair Jacco Arends and Selena Piek in the first round. Then their streak went on as they beat the local pair Kwong Beng Chan and Jenna Gozali. A silver Olympic medal pair was the only way to stop the good run of Mairs and Moore.

And even that pair, Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh (Malaysia), had a hard time beating the English pair. But eventually after almost an hour, the Malaysians played Mairs and Moore out the tournament with 21-14 16-21 and 21-14.

- We are generally happy with our overall performance as we felt that we challenged them during the match! Moore commented after the quarter finals.

Same scenario

- We’ve really enjoyed playing the US Open 2018!

Mairs and Moore will also play Canada Open that is right after the US Open and hope to reach the same level . Again they will have to face Arends and Piek in the first round.

- Similar to this week, we know it’ll be a tough match, but we’ll do our best to hopefully make it the same result again.

Other Europeans fighting

With Mairs and Moore out, does not mean that there are no Europeans left. Right now, several players are fighting for a semi-final spot.

It is already certain that there will be a European pair in the finals of the mixed doubles. Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh (England) are facing Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler (Germany) directly in the semi-finals. In the other semi-final, Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Hettrich are facing the Malaysian pair who played out Mairs and Moore.

Also Mark Caljouw (The Netherlands) is still in the tournament as he is facing Ajay Jayaram in the semi-final. At this point of writing, he won the first set with 21-13.
