The highly anticipated third edition of the YONEX Luxembourg Open 2024 will soon be upon us, and with that, some of the elite European talents are set to clash in riveting matchups to decide who will win the titles.
International Challenge
As the Luxembourg Open has upgraded from an International Series to International Challenge the roster of players, the prestige of the tournament, and the excitement from the badminton community has increased tremendously. Here we will look at the most anticipated aspects of the tournament:
Men’s Singles
In men’s singles, Alex Lanier is seeded No. 1 and will be looking to secure his first big victory of 2024. After losing in the quarterfinals to Joakim Oldorff at the European Championships in Saarbrücken, the Frenchman might get the opportunity for revenge as the pair are on a collision course for the quarterfinals. First, they must get through their opponents; Lanier is meeting Joran Kweekel from the Netherlands and Oldorff is facing Markus Barth from Norway. Perhaps Lanier will be rejuvenated after
recently playing with badminton legends Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan, Peter Gade, and Taufik Hidayat (at the Paris 100), and this will give him the extra push to get the victory this time around.
The men’s singles division is stacked with high level players such as Finland’s Kalle Koljonen, Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh, and India’s Mithun Manjunath.
Women’s singles
Among the women, Estonian Kristin Kuuba is seeded No. 1, and after a challenging start to the 2024 tournaments, the Luxembourg Open 2024 would be crucial for boosting her confidence and enhancing her resume. However, she faces stiff competition from French Rosy Oktavia Pancasari, who has enjoyed a particularly successful year, notably clinching victory at the Swedish Open 2024 and defeating Mia Blichfeldt at the European Championships.
Women’s Doubles
In Women’s Doubles, the Swedish sisters Moa and Tilda Sjoo who won the Swedish Open 2024 are top-seeded in the tournament. They are facing their Danish rivals, Amalie Cecilie Kudsk/ Signe Schulz whom they beat in the Swedish Open 2024 final.
