The Future Series is coming to Vantaa, Finland today. We're thrilled to provide coverage of the tournament, featuring up-and-coming European badminton players who will have the opportunity to showcase their talent alongside the future stars of the sport.
In the men's singles category there are some notable European players to watch out for including Grégoire Deschamp, who is seeded sixth. Deschamp won the Babolat French U17 International 2019 in mixed doubles and got a silver in men's singles. He recently played a close 3-game match (25-23, 15-21, 14-21) against 2024 European Championships bronze medalist Joakim Oldorff at the ORLEN Polish Open 2024. Another tough competitor worth mentioning is India's Subhankar Dey, a regular in the European Circuit and winner of a Super 100 back in 2018. While he hasn't had any major victories since 2018, perhaps the 2024 YONEX Finnish International will be his next triumph.
In the women's singles category, there are also familiar European names to look out for. Rachel Sugden from Scotland, who had a tough go at the 2024 European Championships as she met Carolina Marin in the first round, will be seeded fourth in this tournament in Finland. Anna Tatranova from France is in the number three seeding position and has produced results in Future Series tournaments in Lithuania, Spain and Latvia.
An interesting local player to keep an eye on is 18-year-old Nella Nyqvist. Since winning the 2020 European U15 Championships and the 2022 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival, she has shown the characteristics of a future star. Whether the future star can actually perform in the Future Series remains to be seen.
It will surely be exciting to see what will happen in the tournament, who will prevail, and if there will be any big surprises.
