On day two of the AIG FZ FORZA Irish Open 2022 all the local heroes got eliminated in Dublin. The biggest shock for the hosts was the defeat of Nhat Nguyen, the top-seed in men's singles.

It's been a long day at the Sports Ireland Campus in Dublin today. Athletes from all over world fought for the quarterfinals on six courts with matches lasting from 9:00 AM to 11:45 PM.

After some good results in the qualification rounds yesterday, today was a hard road for all Irish players. They all got eliminated in the first two rounds at their home tournament. Especially seeing Nhat Nguyen lose was tough for the home fans. The 22-year-old was top-seeded in men's single and was the big hope for Badminton Ireland to win it all or at least make it to finals day in Dublin. But Nguyen felt that pressure: "I gave it my all today and it wasn't enough. This one hurts for sure. I wanted to do well at my home tournament."

Another top-seed also had to wave goodbye after the first round today. Ben Lane and Sean Vendy from England surprisingly lost their opener against the Japanese pair Shuntaro Mezaki and Haruya Nishida 17-21 21-17 19-21. The duo from Japan was later taken out by the two Germans Jan Colin Voelker and Bjarne Geiss: "I think it was important that we stayed cool. We stayed confident, sticked to our gameplan and in the end there was a little more luck on our side", said Voelker who will also play in mixed quarterfinals tomorrow with his partner Stine Kuespert.

With many big names still in the tournament, badminton fans all over Europe can expect some great matches tomorrow at the AIG FZ FORZA Irish Open. All of them will be streamed live on badmintoneurope.tv
