The Board of Directors of Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) strongly condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine, an attack which is supported by Belarus. BEC is outraged by the invasion and the act of war in Europe and we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our friends and colleagues in the Ukrainian badminton community. Such unlawful acts go against internationally recognised principles and historically achieved human rights standards Europe stands for.

BEC has agreed on an emergency funding package to aid Ukrainian Badminton players, coaches and officials. This will include opening the BEC Centre of Excellence to players that are stuck around the world participating in international events. BEC is in touch with our colleagues at the Ukrainian Badminton Federation and will continue to work closely with them in the coming period.

The BEC Board of Directors is also calling on the badminton family to take unified action.  BEC has sent a letter to Badminton World Federation (BWF), as the world body responsible, requesting immediate action be taken and pledging its support. The BEC Board of Directors will meet again toconsider BWF’s response and take any further steps necessary in the next 24 hours.

Further communication will be made by BEC after the Sunday meeting of the BEC Board of Directors.
