Sam Magee, four-time bronze medalist at European level reveals what the future may hold for him post-Olympics.

The Irishman has won three bronze European Games medals and one European Championship bronze. The latest coming at the European Games in Minsk last year. In a previous interview with us, Magee spoke about his sister and mixed doubles partner, Chloe Magee, having some decisions to make in terms of retirement. Admitting that retirement is also an option, but right now his focus is to continue.

In the immediate aftermath of the Tokyo Olympics, what does Magee envisage his goals will look like?

- I think my main goal in the future would be to give back to badminton in Ireland and help some younger players come up in level. If this situation fits around my life and Badminton Ireland goals, it would be something I am keen to do. Coach Magee

If it were to transpire that retirement will come, Magee shares what he expects from the future for himself.

- I will for sure stay in badminton. My biggest goal is to become a coach and give back. How that coaching role could be at a high-level or with young players I really do not know yet. I am certainly open to all proposals that come my way. It would be a dream come true to open my own badminton academy in the future. I think for sure it would be in Ireland, if I coached abroad I think there are many clubs or national teams that are already organised to work for but in Ireland, we are still lacking these purpose-built halls and academies for badminton.
