Bialystok will host the European Club Championships in 2021 – instead of this year.
After continuously monitoring the Covid-19 situation around Europe, and after considering its major impact to the international badminton calendar, it has been decided by the Badminton Europe Board of Directors, in consultation with important stake holders, to cancel the 2020 European Club Championships.
The 2020 European Club Championships were due to be held in Bialystok (Poland) from 23-27 June.
Many national leagues have been affected by the Covid-19 spread over the past months, and it is uncertain if (and how many) champions will be crowned around Europe. With that in mind, and in addition to an already packed calendar in the remaining part of 2020, it was decided to cancel this year’s event rather than postponing it. Therefore, no winner of the 2020 European Club Championships will be found.
It is therefore our pleasure to announce that an agreement has been made between the Polish Badminton Association, the local organizers in Bialystok and Badminton Europe so that the 2021 European Club Championships will be held there instead. The Board of Directors has approved to allocate the event to the city which successfully hosted the event in 2018, but due to unforeseen circumstances unfortunately was not able to host in 2020.
The 2021 European Club Championships in Bialystok is scheduled for 21-25 June. This will be the first time where each member association can enter two teams for the competition, so we hope to see many participating teams in 2021.
