From 24-30 June, badminton will be getting underway at the European Games 2019 in Minsk. Toby Penty from England will be participating in his first multi-sports event.

In only one week, badminton finally kicks off at the biggest multi-sports event in Europe. In the Men’s Singles category, the 32 best players will be fighting for a medal at the European Games 2019.

Representing England in the Men’s Singles

Seeded as number eight, Toby Penty is the favourite to win his group. If he finishes the group stage as one of the first two players, he will be qualifying for the knock-out stage.

- I would like to reach the latter stages of the competition. I had good experiences from the Sudirman Cup, the 26-year old revealed.

- With it being my first big tournament back since my ‘new look’, I overcame some big mental barriers, which I am proud of. I think this will only make me a stronger person and player in the years to come, he added.

Since November 2018, Penty has been dealing with an autoimmune disease. With the European Games coming up next week, the Englishman is looking forward to focusing on a special tournament.

- It is one thing being able to represent England, but this will be my first time to represent Great Britain at the European Games. It is an added incentive to show my best level and see how far that can take me.
