In the evening of day two of the All England Open, the Danish had a mini-surge of success. Leading to two Danes booking their place in the Men’s Singles quarterfinals.

Viktor Axelsen, who overcame a brief scare against Sameer Verma yesterday, faced the man who knocked out his fellow countryman Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, Lu Guangzu of China.

Lu had a great start in the first game, but Viktor soon got up to speed and squeezed out the first game, followed by a more assured second game. The match ended 21-19, 21-16.

Just on the next court, Rasmus Gemke, who had fantastically knocked out the 4th seed Chen Long in the first round, faced the returning to form, Jan O Jorgensen.

It was clear that as they train together each day, they knew each other’s game well. But Jorgensen played a great match, winning 21-17, 22-20.

-I'm so happy

It’s a big mouthful

This sort of performance fans have been eager to see from Jorgensen for a while. It is great to see it has returned. Commenting on this return to form, Jorgensen said:

- I am very happy to get through to the quarter final, and like you say it’s been a while. It has been a struggle and I have been working hard for so long to bring this game here.

Despite not playing Gemke before in a tournament, he is a player Jorgensen knows very well. Jorgensen explains if this made this match trickier?

- Yes, but somehow also easier. You know what to expect, because when you play him in practice, you see when he plays really well, and also when he plays not so well. And I think I did well to get the game into the ways I wanted.

A tasty quarterfinal against another countryman in Viktor Axelsen is now set. Reacting to this, Jorgensen stated:

- Yes, it will be tasty. It’s a big mouthful to say the least. It’s going to be amazing, and Friday evening is a nice setting. He is the favourite, but I hope I will bring another show tomorrow.

-We want to go for more
