Viktor Axelsen has reached the quarter-final of the Barcelona Spain Masters 2019. He spoke to Badminton Europe about his ambitious and intentions for the tournament.

21-19, 21-16 is the final result for Denmark’s superstar, Viktor Axelsen, on Thursday. After winning against his Indian opponent, Ajay Jayaram, he achieved the next round of the tournament in Barcelona.

My performance today was a bit up and down. Ajay played very well today, he managed to come back, which made me a bit insecure. But I am happy that I managed to win after two games, Axelsen said after the match.

The main goal: All England

His participation in the BWF World Tour Super 300 in Spain is reasonable. The Dane is ambitious and optimistic, especially for the upcoming weeks.

- The biggest goal for me is the All England in two weeks. So, I came to Barcelona to see where I have to improve my game and what I can do at practising at home next week so that I can be ready for the All England for 110 per cent, Axelsen said.

- Even though my legs might not be there for 120 per cent right now, I am confident that I will be in a good shape in two weeks, he added.

Axelsen is the favourite tomorrow

Tomorrow, Axelsen is facing Kean Yew Loh from Singapore in the quarter-final in Barcelona – a duel that never took place before. Axelsen is currently world-ranked number 6, whereas Loh is on position 69 in the world ranking.
