Russia won their last match of the qualification against Scotland and is ready to take part in the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships.
The two favorites of Qualification Group 2, Scotland and Russia, met on Sunday morning in the final of the group. Both teams beat Ukraine and Moldova on the first two days and entered the last day with the maximum points.
Stars were shining
The first two matches, Mixed Doubles and Men’s Singles, were won by Russia before Scottish star Kirsty Gilmour won the Women’s Singles against 2019 European Championships runner-up, Evgeniya Kosetskaya.
The former winners of All England, Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov, played the Grimley Brothers in the Men’s Doubles, and the Russians secured the victory for Russia winning in straight games.
- We are happy, that we gave our team the winning point, and now we are looking forward to the European Mixed Team Championships, Ivan Sozonov says.
Russia secured a 4-1 victory by winning the final match of the tie, the Women’s Doubles.
Go for the final
Russia was the runner-up in 2017, and Vladimir Ivanov thinks that Russia should aim for a spot in the 2019 final.
- We should try to get the same result (as in 2017). We hope, that we will play in the final and do well, Ivanov says.
Ukraine beat Moldova 4-1 in the last tie of the Qualification Group 2.
