Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis are ready for the finals at the SaarLorLux Open 2018 after winning in straight games against Jelle Maas and Robin Tabeling.
Dutch Jelle Maas and Robin Tabeling were the second seed at the BWF Super 100 tournament, while the English were seeded three.
Ahead of the match the English led the head-2-head 2-1, and at Saarlandhalle the English also had the upper hand after the first game. Langridge and Ellis won the first game 21-17.
Experience was the key
Maas and Tabeling were off to a good start in the second game leading 4-1, 8-3 and 11-6 but at 12-12 it was all even, and after the last rally of the second game it was the English to celebrate.
The bronze medallists from the Olympics in Rio de Janiero are ready for the finals at the SaarLorLux Open winning 21-17 21-18.
- A little bit of experience at the end of each game made the difference. I don’t think we played our best today and I don’t think they did either. At the end of the second game especially we were calm and concentrated on what we needed to do, Marcus Ellis says.
- Mental game got us
On the other side of the net, Jelle Maas thinks that the Dutch could have claimed the spot in the final.
- I think we were the better ones on court today, but their mental game got us today, I think, Jelle Maas says.
