Today the 2013 Babolat Bulgarian International Championships kicked off in Sofia with the main round matches. The President of the Bulgarian Badminton Federation, Prof. Dr. Puzant Kassabian, the Sport Minister of Bulgaria, Prof. Mariyana Georgieva and the mayor of Sofia, Ms. Jordanka Fandakova opened the International Challenge event (15.000 US Dollars).
224 participants from 34 countries are figthting for world ranking points in the Bulgarian capital. Especially in the men's singles category, many European top players, who are ranked within the top 100, are taking part. Yuhan Tan (pictured), the number one seed from Belgium, will face Estonia's Raul Must already in the second round. Other players to watch are Denmark's Emil Holst and Flemming Quach, Arvind Bhat of India and Mattias Borg of Sweden.
Home hero Petya Nedelcheva, who already won this tournament 8 times in the singles event, will receive a strong resistance by Beatriz Corrales (Spain) and by her compatriot Stefani Stoeva including a strong team from Chinese Taipei.
