Nhat Nguyen, 18, is about to have the biggest year in his badminton career yet and is ready for the challenge ahead.
The Irishman is currently in the top 90 in the world but to him, there are bigger things for him to aim for over the course of the next twelve months.
Nguyen has been playing badminton since he was just seven years of age and has played the sport solely since he was eleven when he stopped playing football and chose the shuttle instead of the ball.
The road to Tokyo 2020
The eighteen-year-old, speaking to Badminton Europe revealed that his next goal is to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Nguyen believes that it is something players dream of and stated that it is the biggest stage in the sport.
-The next year is going to be big for me because it is the Olympic Qualifying year and I will be playing in a lot of tournaments. The goal for me is to compete at the Olympics in Tokyo.
- It would mean a lot to me and something that I have been pushing myself to do because it is the biggest stage in badminton and I want to be competing in.
Badminton is growing in the world of sport
Nguyen is a big believer that badminton as a sport growing at this moment in time and hopes it will continue to go in the right direction.
- It is going in the right direction now. There is more money in the sport when you win tournaments which is massive.
- Hopefully, it will be as big as other racket sports like tennis or maybe in the future, it could even be as big as football.
