Badminton Europe has launched a new Development program ("The future stars") to support young talented players in Europe through a new Player Development Plan. The idea is to help players to get from international junior level to international senior level. The individual support will include tournaments, training and coaching support. With this program, BEC will support a total of 24 singles players.
The focus of this project is to help and guide young players in their first three years in the senior Circuit. For most players these three years are the most difficult ones of their international career. Badminton Europe wants to give them support that they are able to play more international tournaments and get experience from different coaches.
"We need to support European players at a younger age"
“We realize that we need to support the most talented European players at a younger age. Hopefully the recognition and incitement we can provide to these players will motivate them to achieve more”, said BEC General Secretary Brian Agerbak on the new initiative.
The selection of players has been made based on the results of the 2013 European Junior Championships in Ankara. The support for the players, who fulfill the criteria, will be for one year with an option to renew every year with a maximum of three years in total.
The financial support is € 1.200 per year and player. The players’ federation has to agree that their player is taking part in the program.
The program will commence in September. Invitations have been sent out to the Member Associations.
