The badminton world mourns the death of Høgni Carlsson and Vilhjalmur Gregoriussen. The two Faroe Islands badminton officials have been killed in a car accident on their way home from the Bermuda Island Games.
Høgni Carlsson (pictured left) and Vilhjalmur Gregoriussen (pictured right) were travelling in a hire taxi after the team had landed back in Faroe Islands via private charter.
Høgni Carlsson was father to Brynhild Djurhuus Carlsson and Rannva Diurhuus Carlsson, who both competed in badminton at the Games and helped their island to bronze in the team event. Vilhjalmur Gregoriussen was the chairman (President) of the Faroe Islands Badminton Association.
Mogens Eriksen, from Faroe Islands Badminton Association, said: “I don't know how to express myself in English, with words that can describe the sorrow we all are in. Our thoughts go to the family members who are left behind.”
Both have contributed significantly to the development of badminton in the Faroe Islands through many years and will be missed tremendously.
BEC Council offers its sincere condolences to their families and to the Faroe Islands Badminton Association.
