During the 5 days of competition, the citizens of Gatchina in the Leningrad region could witness the beautiful game at White Nights (US$15000) from some of the best representatives of European badminton.
In the mixed doubles final, German duo of Peter Käsbauer and Isabel Herttrich beat Sergey Shumilkin and Viktoriya Vorobyeva of Russia to win the first title for Germany on Sunday. Then their compatriot Olga Konon showed a good level in the women's singles final by beating Ella Diehl from Russia. Konon beat the Bronze medalist of the 2010 European Championships in two straight games (21-17, 21-14). The third German triumph was won by women's pair of Isabel Herttrich/Carla Nelte, who beat Fontaine/Lefel.
Eetu Heino created the upset of the tournament when he beat his older countryman Ville Lång. Heino, who plays for Berlin in the Bundesliga, was able to clearly dominate his collegue in the rubber game 21-9 to win his first ever European Circut title.
And in the men's doubles final, the Frenchs Baptiste Careme and Ronan Labar showed a confident victory over Russians Ashmarin/Shumilkin.
