The premier edition of the French International saw German and Malaysian players celebrating, but last week's 2013 French International edition offered a great variety. The five finals of the International Challenge event (15.000 US Dollars) involved players from nine different countries. The five victorious nations were Japan, Scotland, Spain, England and Poland.
In the women's doubles, the Japanese Eto/Wakita showed a solid game especially in defense and both understand to prevent the Malaysian developing their game. The final score was 21-17, 21-17
The second match of the day saw an all-British affair in the mixed doubles event: England's Marcus Ellis and Alyssa Lim versus Scotland's Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier. It was the more experienced Scottish pair, who took the title by winning the match 21-17, 21-17.
Beatriz Corrales - a new Spanish wonder?
The women’s singles final with Olga Konon of Germany and the young Spaniard Beatriz Corrales. The latter made a nice start to the season and took a comfortable victory by winning 21-18 21-15 over the more experienced German.
English number one shuttler Rajiv Ouseph, the second seed, controlled the game against Flemming Quach (Denmark) in two straight games 21-15 21-15 to win his first title of the year.
The last match of the day was a long awaited game by the French public, who came to support their French pair Baptist Carême and Gaëtan Mittelheisser. But it was the Polish duo of Adam Cwalina and Przemyslaw Wacha (pictured), who proved to be the better pair at that day and scored a 21-18, 21-16 victory.
The 2013 French International offered a great atmosphere and the "magnificent" event will hopefully remain in the memories of the players and spectators.
