2012 to be repeated? Germany in the final

Germany has the chance to make the big surprise once again. The Germans are ready to face Denmark in the European Women’s Team Championship final.


A lot of people remembers the 2012 European Women’s Team Championship final. Germany made the big upset beating Denmark in the final. On Sunday they have the chance to repeat that victory.

As expected Spain got a good start to the tie winning the first women’s singles in the semi-finals. The two-times World Champion and Olympic Champion from Rio, Carolina Marin won in straight games 21-13 21-6.

- It was good to be on court today. My performance has been good in this tournament, and I am happy to give my team this start, Carolina Marin says.

- I felt a little tired today. She is World Champion and Olympic Champion. It is never easy to play against her. I tried to play. Of course, I hate to lose, but I tried, Fabienne Deprez says.


Germany taking chances
The second match on the order of play was also in women’s singles. Luise Heim from Germany was up against Beatriz Corrales from Spain and once again it was the Spanish team which could celebrate. Corrales won the match 21-18 21-12

The German made a few changes in the line-up before the semi-final against Spain. In the first women’s doubles Isabel Herttrich paired up with Lara Kaepplein, and taking the chance paid off for the German.

Herttrich and Kaepplein beat Elena Fernandez and Lorena Usle 21-12 21-17.


One match to decide it all
Yvonne Li tied the tie for Germany winning 21-16-13 against Sara Penalver Pereira, and the finalist had two be found in the second women’s double.

Johanna Goliszewski and Carla Nelte met Carolina Marin and Beatriz Corrales, and the two singles profiles had a hard time in the last match of the tie. Germany is ready to face Denmark in European Women’s Team Championships final after winning 21-13 21-9 in the second womens double.
