Several nations qualified for main draw

The first tournament of the year is on, and several nations can be happy after the first day at Yonex Estonian International.

The new season is on for real, and it is clear, that the European badminton players have been looking forward to getting back on court. More than seven different nations claimed a spot in tomorrow’s main draw.

Especially Finland had a good day on the opening day in Tallinn as they qualified in four of the five categories.

European Junior Champion ready for main draw
In April 2017 Johanna Magnusson became European Junior Champion in women’s doubles. Thursday, she qualified for the women’s singles main draw in Yonex Estonian International.

The Swedish youngster, who also has been a profile in the Danish league this season, won both of her matches in the qualification, and she is ready to face Bulgarian Mariya Mitsova, who is seeded second, in the first round on Friday.

- I am really happy with my game, and I was playing well. My footwork was good and my patience was good, Magnusson told Badminton Europe.

Zavadsky aiming for top 100
A player who is back on the international circuit is Dmytro Zavadsky from Ukraine.

- It is so nice to be back on court. I like playing, and it feels like something new, like a fresh start with a new feeling inside. It’s very nice, Zavadsky says.

- It is also special to be back after one year out of international badminton, and I hope I can use 2018 to climb the world ranking back in to top 100, Zavadsky says.
