‘Women on court’ initiative

The 10-14th October will see the launch of the new ‘Irish Future Series’ event in Dublin, Ireland. The new event will be held during the National badminton week and will aim to be the central point for a number of the Women in Sport programmes Badminton Ireland are currently running.

These include ‘Women on court’ initiatives which include summer camps for girls, club initiatives for women and the  ‘Women in the chair’ project for technical officials.

The event referee is Spain’s Carmen Martinez Villanueva who will be assisted logistically by Badminton Irelands event officer Cheryl Evans, a member of Badminton Europe’s Women in Sport working group. Included with in the technical officials will be Irelands Olympic official Carol Ui Fhearghail (pictured).

Badminton Ireland CEO Richard Vaughan commented “We have ran a very successful ‘Women in Sport’ programme over the past four years with an combination of summer camps, technical official development and club initiatives and we hope that this event during the National badminton week  will bring all the initiatives together and promote women’s role in sport.”
