Badminton Europe (BEC) is proud to announce the second player to join the new Centre of Excellence in Holbaek, Denmark. Felix Burestedt of Sweden will join Milan Ludík and many others when the centre starts up from 1 September 2017.

When answering why he chose to join the centre, Burestedt, 22, says: “I think that the Centre of Excellence can provide me with everything I need to become the best player I can be.”

He started to play badminton when he was seven years old, and his dream is to become a world class player and reach the men’s singles’ top 20 in the world. Currently, he is training in Malmö (Sweden) in the morning and in his club Solroed Strand (Denmark) in the evening.

“I feel truly happy about joining the Centre of Excellence! I feel that I need a better structure of my training, and to have everything in the same place with the same coach is something I am looking very much forward to.”, he says.

Burestedt is very enthusiastic about the project which will accommodate European players, provide them with daily training and coaching, including plenty of opportunities to study. He sees the potential and believes it can become successful.

“I have seen some nice facilities and a good group of players is taking shape, and with a great power as Badminton Europe behind it I only see opportunities.”

Burestedt was in Holbaek during the Selection Camp this May and saw the facilities for himself, and encourages players in a similar position, to join him in Holbaek;

“They can offer a good environment for the practice with all the small things such as good training facilities, physiotherapy, massage etc. all in the same place. So, to anyone else who don’t have the best opportunities to evolve in their home countries or where they live, I can see the opportunities there. And I believe this can be the best spot to get together and help each other reach a higher level”

Burestedt will be in Glasgow (Scotland) for the 2017 World Championships in the end of August, before coming to Holbaek for 1 September.

Stay tuned for more announcements regarding the Centre of Excellence during the summer.
