Brice Leverdez
(pictured) of France secured the men's singles title at the Spanish Open in Madrid (15.000 US Dollars). The 26-year-old from Paris grabbed his first season's title by beating Gabriel Ulldahl of Sweden in three games. The latter was surprisingly storming into the Spanish finals after beating a couple of strong players including home favourite
Pablo Abian in the semis.
After the victories in Ukraine and Belgium in 2011 it was the third Circuit title for
Brice Leverdez in the last 12 months.
Salakjit Ponsana destroyed the hopes of the local crowd by beating first top seeded
Carolina Marin in three close games and then also Spanish number two Beatriz Corrales in Sunday's finals.
The men's doubles crown was won by Dutch pair of Jorrit De Ruiter and Dave Khodabux in an all-Dutch affair against Jelle Maas/Jacco Arends. Marcus Ellis and Gabrielle White of England took the mixed doubles title. And Russians Tatjana Bibik and Anastasia Chervaykova proved to be the strongest women's doubles in Madrid.
