Germany's Lukas Schmidt took the men's singles crown at the Croatian International in Zagreb (International Series, 5000 US-Dollars). The 23-year-old beat Emil Holst of Denmark in a close three game encounter 21-18, 11-21, 21-19 in 50 minutes. For the current No. 91 in the world rankings it's the first ever international title.
Jacco Arends of the Netherlands was probably the happiest man in Zagreb today as he could land two titles by winning the men's and mixed doubles categories. With his partner Jelle Maas, the 21-year old Arends beat the locals and home favourites Zvonimir Hölbling and Zvonimir Durkinjak of Croatia in two games.
And in the mixed doubles final - with partner Ilse Vaessen - he was again successful over Croatians. Arends/Vaessen beat Durkinjak/Poznanovic in three close games. The title in the woman's singles went to the Japanese Kana Ito who beat young Turkish shuttler Neslihan Yigit. And the women's doubles crown was won by Dutch pair of Barning/Muskens.
