WITH LESS THAN 200 days to go until the TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships 2017 come to Glasgow’s Emirates Arena tickets are selling fast.

So fast, in fact, that the Category A Season Tickets and Category A Weekend Passes have nearly all gone as badminton fans vie for the best seats in the house to see global stars like double defending champions Carolina Marin of Spain and Chen Long of China in action at the Emirates Arena from 21-27 August.

GB stars Kirsty Gilmour, Chris and Gabby Adcock and Olympic Bronze medallists Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge will lead the British hopes and add to that a chance to see the great Lee Chong Wei in his final bid to win a first elusive World title and you can understand why they are some of the hottest tickets in Glasgow this summer.

Chong Wei has delayed retirement plans after having to settle for a third successive Olympic silver at the Olympics in Rio and the Malaysian superstar is determined to have one last crack at the gold medal at the World Championships.

Anne Smillie, Chief Executive of BADMINTONscotland, said today: “The early demand for tickets reflects the rise in popularity of our sport and the fact that we have a superb venue in the Emirates Arena to showcase our third World Championships in the last 20 years.

“The World Championships and Sudirman Cup in 1997 and the Sudirman Cup team event in 2007 were hugely popular and I have no doubt that this summer’s World Championships will top that for skill, drama and entertainment.

“Obviously the sooner fans book their tickets, the better off they will be in terms of being as close to the action as possible.”

Councillor Archie Graham OBE, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow Life, said: “It’s no surprise that tickets for this fantastic event are selling fast. Lucky ticket-holders are set to see some incredible action from world class players, and the atmosphere in the Emirates Arena is second to none.

“Fans who haven’t yet bought their tickets should snap them up soon in order to make sure they secure the best seats at what promises to be an amazing week of competition.”

Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “It is great to see tickets are selling well for the TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships in Glasgow this August. As we’ve shown in recent years, Scotland is the perfect stage for events and this year’s World Championships look set to continue that tradition.

“EventScotland is proud to be support the event that is shaping up to be another spectacular sporting occasion for Glasgow. If you haven’t got your tickets already, make sure you book them soon to avoid disappointment.”

The TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships 2017 will be staged at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena from 21-27 August.

It is being delivered by BADMINTONscotland in partnership with Glasgow Life on behalf of Glasgow City Council and with funding support from EventScotland and UK Sport.
