SportsCenter Vejen will form the surroundings for the Pre-Selections Camp that is organized from December 5th to 9th. Badminton Europe is excited to welcome 33 players and 4 coaches to the facilities in Vejen, Denmark.

Back in September, Badminton Europe made an initiative from the High Performance Commission public; In the Fall of 2017, a High Performance-centre is expected to start up on the European Continent.

The main idea is to create a professional setting where young high level-players can live and train daily. By having a common training centre under Badminton Europe’s flag, every Member Association will have a chance to participate and cooperate to develop the high performance-level in Europe.

To select the right players, Badminton Europe has invited potential appliers to participate in a pre-selections camp. The closing date for applying was late October, and on the 27th we could, with great pride, announce that the number of applications for the pre-selections camp had reached 58.

A hopeful bunch of 33 players from 21 countries has been invited along with four coaches. Next week, they will all, respectively, train, coach, and, participate in individual interviews and evaluating meetings.

This will be the first pre-selection camp out of three. The second and third are planned for the first half of 2017. Jeroen van Dijk, BEC Development Manager, will function as Director of the pre-selection camps, and in cooperation with the coaches evaluate the participants.

Basic info about the Pre-Selection Camp:
  • Dates: December 5-9, 2016
  • Location: Vejen, Denmark
  • Hosted by: Vejen Badminton Club in close cooperation with Badminton Denmark and Badminton Europe
  • First training session: Monday, Dec 5 at 4-7 PM
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there will be two training sessions per day.
  • Between the training sessions there will be talks with the players to discuss the possibility to participate in the project.

  • Departure: Friday, Dec 9 after lunch

The final location of the BEC Centre of Excellence is still under assessment, and Badminton Europe has the last couple of months been travelling all over Europe to visit the candidates. We will be able to make the official announcement of the location in January.

Player selection and the final composition of the squad will be decided at the discretion of BEC, and confirmed by May 2017.

Keep an eye out on our social medias the coming week, where we will be reporting straight from the Pre-selection Camp in Vejen.

‘Badminton Unlimited’, BWF’s Youtube-show, will also be visiting the camp to do interviews with coaches, players and BEC representatives. We are very proud that the BEC Centre is receiving the attention from the world of badminton, and will repost the final video from BadmintonWorld.tv as soon as it is published.
