After four intense days of matches, the second edition of the Luxembourg Open came to an end with many European players on the podium.

On Sunday, three out of the five gold medals were taken by European athletes: Denmark in men’s doubles, the Netherlands in women’s doubles, and Germany in mixed doubles.

From Denmark, William Kryger Boe and Christian Faust Kjær, who made it to the semifinals at the Estonian International earlier this year, won their first gold of the year at the Luxembourg Open versus Lau Sheng and Lee Bo, from Malaysia.

In women’s doubles, the Dutch pair Kirsten De Wit and Alyssa Tirtosentono won against the Dane players Amalie Kudsk and Signe Schulz 21-14, 8-21, 21-19. De Wit and Tirtosentono secured their first gold of the year after already performing at many tournaments these past few months.

Patrick Scheiel and Franziska Volkmann, from Germany, conquered first place in mixed doubles. Winning 25-23 21-17 against Andreas Søndergaard and Iben Bergstein from Denmark meant the first international title for the German pair, which also won their first national title earlier this year.

In men’s singles, Ade Resky Dwicahyo, from Azerbaijan, was the only European making his way to the podium. Dwicahyo already made it to the final of the Uganda International Challenge 2023, finishing in second place, and now secured another silver medal at the Luxembourg Open. He lost the final 11-21, 19-21 to S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian from India.

In women’s singles, Hina Akechi (Japan) won the gold, and Ying Li Chiang (Chinese Taipei) was the runner-up.
