As part of the BEC Regional Projects programme, the 11th edition of the Girls Camp was organised in Serbia.

The Serbian badminton club RAVENS KG, in close cooperation with the Badminton Association of Serbia and the city of Kragujevac, organised the 11th edition of the BEC Regional Project Girls Camp 2022, from the 2nd until the 7th of August.

The event is organised thanks to Badminton Europe's Development programme. This year, the camp gathered 24 girls and six coaches from four countries: Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Cyprus.

There is plenty of different aspects on which the players work on throughout the camp, but Bulgarian Head Coach Blagovest Kisyov explained that "the main training focus points this year were to improve the footwork towards the net and the adaptation of a good stable position which would allow players to play plenty of shots with and without the deception”.

It is a busy period in the European Junior Circuit calendar and with the European Junior Championships and European U15 Championships coming up, Kisyov explains that they ”agreed on training with the goal of reducing unforced errors and keeping the shuttle longer in play”.

“We wanted to emphasise the importance of the communication between each other to deliver good quality teamwork”, the Bulgarian Head Coach added.

Social activities were also arranged during the six-day event. Daria, Sasha, Sara, Ema, participants from Romania, enjoyed the trainings but also the social side of the camp, saying that their favourite activities were ”swimming in the pool, the ice cream evening, learning daily shots, and playing with other players”.

After five days of intense work, the players showed significant improvement in the areas they worked on, both theoretically and practically. The cohesion of the group became better due to not only the large social activities but also thanks to the encouragement for communication both in the hall and out of the hall.

Andreja Todorovic, Project Manager and the President of the Executive Board of RAVENS KG Badminton Club, added some words on the successful camp.

“I would like to use this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to Badminton Europe, Badminton Association of Serbia, the city of Kragujevac, and all companies and participants in the camp for their support in establishing this project”, Todorovic concluded.
