The Shuttle Time Trainer/Tutor Course that is taking place 19 to 22 May in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, got off to a great start yesterday.

The Shuttle Time Trainer/Tutor course started yesterday in Caldas da Rainha. 12 participants arrived to the Portuguese city to learn more about what it is like to be a tutor/trainer in the Shuttle Time programme.

The day started with an introductory session part. After that, the experts already got started with the first lesson on court and the participants delivered their first task, in which there were plenty of new ideas shared in a relaxed atmosphere that allowed participants to have fun too. It is through exercises like this that those undertaking the course will learn what is necessary to carry out such activities in their home countries.

- I hope to be able to tutor when I get home to Ireland. I want to make Shuttle Time more accessible in my country for people that live around the country and not in the capital city. I’d like to deliver this course in teacher training colleges and to assistant coaches in clubs, participant from Ireland Aisling Ryan said.

- As a teacher, I hope that I can bring more badminton into the schools in Norway, to make badminton bigger, to share it with high schools, participant from Norway Anne-Margrethe Staurset stated.

Participants then explored the differences between being a tutor and a teacher through a session with different activities, after which they analysed their performances, and feedback was shared in order to be prepared for the activities of the following day.

- I think that Shuttle Time makes the sport very accessible to teachers and it’s a nice way to introduce it in the school subject of Physical Education. It has an excellent structure; the lesson plans are very structured and easy for the teachers to follow. The resources are also really good, particularly the app, which we worked a lot with today, participant Aisling Ryan said.
