Due to the growing sanitary and epidemiological threat caused by the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Management Board of the Polish Badminton Association (PBA), after consultation with the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Krakow, the Crisis Management Department in Krakow, the Department of Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Sport and Health, have decided to postpone the Polish Open 2020.

The tournament, set for Krakow 26-29 March, was a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

- The decision of the Board of the PBA to postpone the Polish Open was dictated by the need to ensure full safety and a sporting atmosphere during the competition. Unfortunately, at present, in the conditions of a health threat, and the inability to ensure a sense of security for competitors, supporters, organisers, we cannot take such risk, says Michał Langer, PBA General Secretary.

- The decision was difficult but necessary, he adds.

New dates are being earmarked but the tournament will no longer fall inside the Olympic Qualification period.

This decision only affects the Polish Open, and not the Polish U17 International taking place in Imielin, 13-15 March.
