France’s Gicquel/ Delrue are through to their second Super 1000 semifinal, having reached the final stages of the VICTOR China Open 2023.

A huge milestone for the young pair as they overcame second seeded Japanese duo, Watanabe/ Higashino, with a score of 22-20 21-14. In a post-match interview with BWF, Delrue expressed their pride, stating, “It’s been a really long time since we’ve won two matches in a row, so we are really, really proud of how we’ve worked to get back to this level. We played really well this week so let’s continue this tomorrow”.

During the light-hearted interview, the pair revealed that they are very proud of their achievement while emphasising the need to stay focused and analyse their upcoming opponents in order to be ready.

Gicquel explained, “They beat us two weeks ago in the World Championships, so we are really looking forward to this match. He [Chan] has already started sending me messages on Instagram. So, we’re going to fight hard.”

Delrue added in a playful tone: “It was close [at the World Championships] but we lost so we have to take our revenge tomorrow.”

Gicquel/ Delrue are set to face Chan/ Toh of Malaysia next, in hopes of reaching their first HSBC World Tour Super 1000 final.
