The opening day of the 2024 European Championships has come to an end, featuring the Round of 64 in both the men’s and women’s singles events. The highlight in Saarbrücken was the clash between Germany's own Fabian Roth and Austria’s Luka Wraber.

On his home ground, Roth emerged victorious against Wraber, clinching the match in straight games, 21-10 21-16. Roth is set to face Hungary’s Gergo Pytel in his next match on Wednesday.

The European Championships also serve as a platform for the younger talents, like Bulgaria's Kaloyana Nalbantova and Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova who have both seized the opportunity to advance to the next round.

Seasoned players also enjoyed success, with the Netherlands' Mark Caljouw, Estonia's Kristin Kuuba, and Finland’s Kalle Koljonen, 2021 European Championships bronze medallist, all securing spots in the subsequent round.
