Yesterday’s European results:

The shocking beginning:
The first day was a very rough day for the Europeans at the French Open 2024, day two was definitely more mixed. The day started in a bit of a shocking fashion when Carolina Marin, who was seeded fifth in the tournament, lost to Beiwen Zhang in a three-game match after winning the first game.

French performances

The French homecrowd saw the recently crowned champion from the German Open Christo Popov lose twice, first in singles to Shi Yu Qi, and once in doubles with his brother Toma Jr. Popov. The crowd also had to say an early goodbye to Margot Lambert/ Anne Tran who lost to number six seeds Nami Matsuyama/ Chiharu Shida.

The French crowd did get something to cheer for when Lucas Corvee/ Ronan Labar defeated Mohammad Ahsan/ Hendra Setiawan.

European victories

Other European victories to get excited about came the way of Anders Antonsen, Yvonne Li who beat Line Kjaersfeldt, Kim Astrup/ Anders Skaarup Rasmussen who beat fellow Danes Daniel Lundgaard/ Mads Vestergaard.

Other surprising victories came to Line Christopersen and Magnus Johannesen who each beat opponents who they had never defeated before.

Match to look forward to Thursday:

An all-European men’s doubles showdown between Kim Astrup/ Anders Skaarup Rasmussen against Lucas Corvee/ Ronan Labar. Then Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue will take on number eight seeded Tang Chun Man/ Tse Ying Suet.

Viktor Axelsen will compete against Wang Tzu Wei whom he has a 6-0 head-to-head score against. Anders Antonsen will look to keep his unbeaten streak of 2024 alive when he will play against Ng Ka Long Angus from Hong Kong.

Line Christophersen and Magnus Johanesen will each have to try to win against the number two seeded players in their respective fields.
