Scotland bounced back with a win in the women’s singles as Kirsty Gilmour defeated Abigail Holden, 21-7 21-8.

Next up was the men’s doubles match and Alexander Dunn/ Adam Hall took the clash to three games, but Ben Lane/ Sean Vendy secured the win of the team match for England, making it 3-1 for the English side.

“We started off really well, exactly how we wanted to. In the second game, we might have taken our foot off the gas a little bit which gave them a little confidence. We started pretty shaky in the third game but we found our form again”, stated Sean Vendy.

England also toom the win in the women’s doubles, with Chloe Birch/ Lauren Smith beating Julie Macpherson/ Ciara Torrance 21-9 21-15. Adam Hall sees the many positives from today and previous European Mixed Championships that his team can take onto their next encounter.

“The English guys were a little bit stronger but that doesn’t mean that we can’t go and take on Denmark tomorrow. We had a really good match with them in Finland two years ago and we were missing Alexander Dunn and Kirsty Gilmour so there’s no reason why we couldn’t take what we did well today and cause an upset tomorrow”, said Hall.

Denmark went on to further secure their win on their last two matches against Ukraine. Maiken Fruergaard/ Sara Thygesen got to close their win in straight games against Mariia Stoliarenko/ Yelyzaveta Zharka, 21-15 21-19. Mathias Thyrri/ Amalie Magelund finished the team match by winning against Viacheslav Yakolev/ Polina Tkach, 21-7 21-12.
