Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss is in not one, but two quarterfinals at the World Championships 2021, the only player to achieve this in Huelva.

Flashback: European Championships 2021 in Kyiv. Mark Lamsfuss was showing strong form and was able to navigate his way through in two categories to the quarterfinals and then onto the semifinals.

After an agonising loss in the mixed doubles against the eventual champions, Rodion Alimov/ Alina Davletova, Lamsfuss was able to reach the final in the men’s doubles, only to be denied the opportunity for gold due to testing positive for COVID-19.

It was a mixed bag of results at the Olympics, but soon the big wins returned. Ahsan/ Setiawan in men’s doubles and revenge for Tokyo against Tang/Tse were standouts.

Now here in Huelva, Lamsfuss finds himself in two major quarterfinals and fighting for the medals once again. Perhaps this time his fortunes are looking up.

Progressing through the tournament, Lamsfuss describes the opportunity very simply.

-It’s a good chance for us and we just got for it.

Great having the crowd back
The atmosphere at the Palacio de los Deportes Carolina Marín is really building now and Lamsfuss welcomes it.

-It’s amazing to have fans back and it is really fun to play. When they are cheering loudly, I love it.
