The draw for the knockout stage of the mixed doubles tournament at the Olympics has been conducted.
The reigning European Games Champions, Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith, will be representing Europe in the quarterfinals at the Tokyo Olympics.
The draw for the knockout stage was conducted on Monday afternoon, and the two English players, who at the Olympics are representing Team GB, will be facing opponents from Hong Kong in the quarterfinals.
Ellis and Smith will play Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet for a spot in the semifinals.
- I am happy with the draw. Every opponent is tough at this stage, but we are excited for the game, Lauren Smith told Badminton Europe.
The two pairs have met four times before, with the Asians leading the head-to-head 3-1.
Ellis and Smith won the last time the met, at the All England 2020, where the GB’s won in three games, 24-26 22-20 21-11.
The matches will start on 28 July.
