The capital city of Ukraine, Kyiv, is looking forward to hosting the 2021 European Championships where on 2 May, the champions will be crowned. Following this spectacle, on 7-9 May, a Shuttle Time tutor/ trainer course will be held. Read to find out more.

These Shuttle Time courses are organised by Badminton Europe and happen once a year. They are great occasions to educate participants who wish to continue developing the BWF Shuttle Time in their home countries.

The two-and-a-half-day course is designed to build skills and knowledge for tutors to deliver the training courses to teachers.

The Japanese connection
In 2021, there is much anticipation for the Olympics due to take place in Tokyo, Japan, this summer. Much like the Shuttle Time initiative, the Olympics acts as a catalyst for growth and engagement with badminton. An inspiring teacher can leave the same lasting imprint on a young mind as an inspiring Olympian.

Shuttle Time aims to leave children with a positive image of badminton through many opportunities to have fun, engage with others and experience success.

This year, the event will take place in a new sports facility, the Kyiv Racket Sports Club, which happens to be situated opposite Kyoto Park – a Japan-themed location with spring cherry blossoms lining footpaths, a rock garden and stone pagodas. Giving the event a hint of the Olympic glow.

Ukrainian pride
The Ukrainian Badminton Federation has been very active in the development of the BWF Shuttle Time Programme these past few years, and more generally in the development of badminton. Oleksii Dniprov, President of the Ukrainian Badminton Federation, has an overwhelming sense of pride and optimism for the project.

-Shuttle Time Ukraine is the flagship project of our federation. I am sure that the way for developing future Olympic Champions and for the promotion of badminton, is for it to begin at school level.

-We are proud of our success in this project because in a short time we managed to show a very good result - we have around 100,000 children playing badminton in schools in 10 regions of Ukraine. We highly appreciate all the support of Badminton European and BWF. Hosting Shuttle Time Tutor/Trainer courses is a great opportunity for us, as we can learn more from our colleagues and share our own experience. We are looking forward to greeting all the participants in Kyiv!
