To get drawn against the world number one in the first round is tough, but for that to happen two weeks in a row, it takes a special player to overcome this challenge and come out the other side smiling.

This is precisely what has happened to Line Kjærsfeldt of Denmark. In the Malaysia Masters, she faced world number one, Chen Yu Fei from China, in the first round. Despite a great effort to force a decider, Chen continued her winning run from the World Tour Finals and went on to lift the Malaysia Masters title.

This week in Jakarta for the Indonesia Masters it was the same again, but Line Kjærsfeldt kept her head high and focused all her effort to overturn the result. The Dane played a consistent attacking game and managed to engineer a two-game win, 21-18, 21-14. Kjærsfeldt shared her delight on Facebook after the match.

-Moving on to the second round! Really happy I learned from last week and could turn it into a win against world number one Chen Yu Fei. Ready to fight again tomorrow. Hoping to bring back the same mindset and game.

Kjærsfeldt will now play Beiwen Zhang from the USA in the second round

Joy in Jakarta
It was Denmark against China also in the men’s singles when Viktor Axelsen took on Lin Dan. It’s now three wins in a row for the Dane against the double Olympic champion. Today it was a solid two-game win, 21-12, 21-14. Axelsen now plays Indonesian Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, who beat India’s Srikanth Kidambi in his opening round.

Germany’s Jones Ralfy Jansen and Peter Kaesbauer, after getting through the men’s doubles qualification came out on top in a mightily close match against Canada’s Ho-Shue and Yakura, 22-20, 23-21. They now face Malaysians Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi in the next round.

Kirsty Gilmour scored an impressive win against the young talent Yeo Jia Min of Singapore, five places higher than her in the world rankings. The Scot defeated her opponent 21-15, 21-14, and will now take on another young, super talent in eighth seed An Se Young of Korea.
