Matthew Clare and Max Flynn, England, scored a big win against fourth seeds Jones Ralphy Jansen and Peter Kaesbauer of Germany, at the Italian International 2019 today.
Jansen and Kaesbauer, recent winners of the Irish Open, were in good form coming into Milan. But the young English pair stuck it out and secured their spot in the second round. Summing up the moment, Clare says.
-Yeah, we’re really happy, it’s probably our first big result together. We have been a bit in and out of our performance levels. So, it was really nice to play a consistent level there against a good pair and come out on top.
Playing really freely
After coming fast out of the blocks and winning the first game, the pair lost a lead late on in the second game, forcing a decider. Flynn explains what happened.
-I think were really far down in the second game, something like 9-1. We then started playing really freely then, and got it back. But then like you say we managed to get the lead back, so there was a little bit of frustration that we had to do it in three, but we were up for the challenge and won the match.
