The BWF TOTAL Sudirman Cup is now over and after a dominant performance against Japan on Sunday, China is the Champions, in Nanning.

The team won three straight matches, arguably the toughest matches of all categories and pushed Japan aside with a 3-0 win in the final.

A professional display

The tie started off very well for China as Li Jun Hui/Liu Yuchen took the first win in straight games against Hiroyuki Endo/Yuta Watanabe. The pair won quite convincingly against their opponents, 21-18, 21-10.

Chen Yufei, who won the YONEX All England Open Championships in March added to the scoreline after beating Akane Yamaguchi. The Chinese Women’s Singles player came from a game down to beat her opponent. (17-21, 21-16, 21-17)

The tie was then won in the Men’s Singles, with Shi Yuqi catching the current World Champion Kento Momota on a bad day. Yuqi did go one game down in the match but then came back in emphatic style to take the win off Momota. (15-21, 21-5, 21-11)

Europe’s performance

There were some impressive performances from European countries in different contests throughout the week, including those not in the elite group.

In the elite group, Denmark managed to take a win over Indonesia to through into the knockout rounds while England managed to beat Denmark in the second tie of the week.

Unfortunately, their loss to Indonesia meant they exited the competition after the group stage.
