The Scottish Open got off to a flyer for European players today with wins across the board.

Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith, winning in the Mixed Doubles, got the winning streak underway which has continued throughout the day.

Positives all round

With over twenty wins for European players so far today, it has been some day for the continent.

Including good wins for the Irish Open winners, Sam Magee/Chloe Magee, who beat Bastian Kersaudy/Anne Tran in three games to advance to the next round.

Also winning today were Tom Wolfenden/Jenny Moore who has beaten their fellow compatriots Matthew Clare/Victoria Williams in a three-game thriller.

Feixiang too strong for Popov

Toma Junior Popov is out of the Scottish Open today, after being beaten by his Chinese opponent, Sun Feixiang, in straight games.

The Frenchman believes he was very much unlucky in the test and feels that he deserved better than losing 21-15 and 21-10.

- It was really hard to play because the speed changed, I felt really nervous and I could not play the game, Toma Junior Popov told Badminton Europe.

- It is frustrating because he was lucky. But that is part of the game, and he was confident. But in normal conditions the match would probably have turned out in a different way, he said.
