This mornings play at European Juniors yielded the first major upsets as the first of the big seeded pairs fell in the mixed doubles competition.

In the very first match of the mornings play Italian pair Lisa Sagmeister and Simon Koellemann beat top seeds Ian Spiller and Petra Polanc of Solvenia. Seedings are sometimes a lottery in junior events and the Italians would have felt they had a real chance ahead of the match.

- We analysed them well and had a solid tactic against them said Sagmeister.

Less than an hour later an even bigger shock took place as 3rd seeded Danes Sebastian Gronjberg and Amalie Magelund lost out in what was a laboured performance against English unseeded pair of William Jones and Asmita Chaudhari.

- We knew if we matched them point for point the pressure would be on them. They looked very drained after the team event so we pushed hard to win.
