In amongst the build-up to the World Championships, just days away, Badminton does not stop. And in far east Russia, Vladivostok is hosting the Russian Open.

With the South Korean capital Seoul being closer to Vladivostok than Moscow. It seems quite fitting to see Vladimir Ivanov, who’s club Primorye Vladivostok just won their 5th Club Championships since 2012, partnering South Korea player Kim Min Kyung in the Mixed Doubles.

Ivanov, who leaves from the World Championships right after this tournament, has made quick work of his opponents. They overcame Russian pair Denis Grachev and Ekaterina Bolotova (Ivanov’s previous mixed partner), 21-13, 21-13. Both Ivanov and Kim are also through to the quarter-finals in their respective Men’s and Women’s Doubles, and both now face opponents from Malaysia.

Other results
Estonian Women’s Doubles pair Kristin Kuuba and Kati-Kreet Marran overcame a tricky 3 game match against young South Korean duo Lee Ji Hye and Park Sang Eun. Kuuba also played against her doubles partner Marran in the singles, and was victorious, 21-7, 21-12.

Germany’s Yvonne Li continued her run in the Women’s Singles as 4th seed when beating Malaysia’s Muralitharan Thinaah, 21-14, 20-22,21-9. This win was particularly satisfying for Li as she was the losing player in this match-up just 3 weeks ago in the Iran Fajr International Challenge.
