European clashes in the doubles

In the doubles categories it is hard to make any predictions ahead of the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2018. And with the retirement of Kamilla Rytter Juhl new European players have to step up if Europe should claim a medal in the women’s doubles.

In the mixed doubles category the two-times European Champions Gabby and Chris Adcock, England will not walk onto the court in the first round due to a bye, but the 2017 World Championships medallists will play either an Indian or a Canadian pair in the second round.

- As always with a draw for a World Championships there's never an easy one. We are seeded to meet the Chinese in the last 16 whom we have never played before so I hope that we can make it through to play them as its always fun to play a new pair. However, having said that, we have two matches before that and we will be taking it game by game, Chris Adcocks says.

From a European point of view the first round clash between Marvin Emil Seidel/Linda Efler, Germany and English Ben Lane/Jessica Pugh will be interesting. The same goes for the all European match-up between Russians Rodion Alimov/Alina Davletova and Peter Käsbauer/Olga Konon from Germany.

European clash in first and second round
The European Champions in women’s doubles, the Stoeva Sisters, Gabriela and Stefani, will be playing a European pair in the second round. Germans Lisa Kaminski/Hannah Pohl will face Lisa Jaques/Flore Vandenhoucke from Belgium in the first round, and the winners will meet the Bulgarians in the second round.

Bye for the Danes
In men’s doubles the three Danish pair, who are all seeded, have a bye in the first round, while the 2016 Olympic medallists, Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis, will play Indian Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty in the first round.

The former winner of the YONEX All England, Vladimir Ivanov/Ivan Sozonov, who are seeded 10 at the World Championships, will like the Danes have a bye in the first round and face either Minh Bao/Bao Duc Duong from Vietnam or Peyo Boichinov/Ivan Panev from Bulgaria in the second round.
