Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games - a historical one it will be. Para-badminton will make its maiden appearance as a medal sport in August 2020, in the land of the rising sun. Numerous activities and initiatives have taken place since the announcement of para-badminton´s inclusion into the Paralympic Games Programme in October 2014.

Earlier this year, a para-badminton priorities plan survey was sent to all Member Associations. In this survey, our members were asked to indicate their top three priorities for high performance and development planning. This player participation grant is a follow up from the replies we received from the Member Associations.

ʺFollowing your (the Member Associations) input on how we can help to improve the performance of your para-badminton athletes, we have now a Participant Grant at your disposal. Do take this opportunity to fund your players to enter into more international para-badminton competitions so they can reach their ultimate goals of a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games presence,” urged João Matos, Chair of the BEC Para-Badminton Commission.

The development of para-badminton is gaining its momentum and at Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC), one of the goals for the high-performance area is to assist our Member Associations with elite para-badminton players. ʺIt is very important for us to focus on our European players who have medal prospects and provide them the support we can prior to the qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. As for the development side of para-badminton, the 2018 BEC Para-Badminton Event is planned and this year, we are catering this event to beginner coaches (in para-badminton) and administrators. This event is foreseen to take place from 15-18 November, ʺ stated Tania Teoh, BEC Junior Manager.
