We all know how brilliantly dominant the Danes have been in European badminton. In particular in the Men’s events, where 7 out of 8 medalists in Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles last year at the European Championships 2017 were from Denmark.

However, the women’s events in recent years have benefited from a great variety of nations outside the usual Badminton European powerhouses, achieving success. Most prominently this has been seen in the Women’s Singles with the triple European Champion Carolina Marin of Spain. And already the positive effect of this is being seen in the younger players coming through from this nation.

A truly remarkable pair
Looking at the Women’s Doubles, over the past 4 European Championships, we have seen 7 different nations medal. But impressively the Gold medalists each time were Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christina Pedersen of Denmark. They are a truly remarkable pair who have achieved so much in their careers. But one pair who are focused to take the European crown eastwards to Bulgaria are the ever improving sisters, Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva. They came mightily close last year in Denmark, losing in 3 sets. This year, as 2nd seeds, they seem very content with the draw when stating

-For us the draw is as expected. So no surprises.

This certainly warrants excitement
The form of the Stoeva sisters this year hasn’t been better. Final in the Swiss Open, semi-final in the German Open, a great result beating Indonesian No. 6 seeds at the All England Open, and a tournament win at the Orleans Masters latest. This certainly warrants excitement going into the European Championships in Huelva, Spain which takes place 24-29 April 2018. But the sisters are keep a cool head and say they are not looking too far ahead but instead say

-We are looking at the draw only match by match.
