Danisa Denmark Open 2017 is up and running, and after the qualifying rounds on Tuesday it was clear that the Europeans have settled in well, in Odense.

Germany’s Fabienne Deprez was one out of many. In her first match, she was frustrated about the wind, but in the second and final qualifying match she was able to handle the pressure.

- It is a good feeling now because I really need some points to improve my ranking. I’m just happy, she tells Badminton Europe right after her match.

Her opponent was her practice partner from Germany, the six-year younger Yvonne Li. A match that made Deprez feel nervous:

- We practice together every day and of course we know each other well. But I was able to handle the pressure and in the end I had the better feeling on court.

Re-union for European silver medalists
New Danish mixed doubles constellations are making their debut on home turf, but for Niclas Nøhr and Sara Thygesen it is a reunion with an old friend.

- We are happy to be playing together again and, for now, we just focused on making it through the qualification, Thygesen told Badminton Europe after their match.

- Right now, we need to get to know each other on court again and improve our bottom level. Of course we play to win but we are playing together long-term now, so the more matches we get to play the better, Nøhr continues.

Europeans took advantage of home advantage
Niclas Nøhr even proves his comeback by also qualifying in men’s doubles with Kasper Antonsen after two three set matches.

Besides Denmark and Germany, European players from Finland, England, Netherlands, Sweden and Russia can look forward to entering the main draw at the Superseries Premier, in Odense.

And the European dominance was evident in women’s singles as well, where all four qualifying spots went to Europeans; Julie Dawall Jakobsen, Fabienne Deprez, Anna Thea Madsen and Chloe Birch.
