Denmark were stopped by second seed Korea in today's Thomas Cup semifinals and in its ambition to win the prestigious trophy for the first time. The Danes, the last European team in the competition, lost 1-3 to the East Asians. Despite a fantastic teammate support by blowing high-pitch horns and a Chinese audience support by cheering "Go Denmark", Denmark lost the first two singles and the second doubles - all in three games - to let Korea march into the Sunday's finals.
Former world number one Peter Gade
(pictured) suffered his first game loss in Wuhan at 21-14 to Lee Hyun Il, after winning his opening game 21-17, followed by a 21-10 loss. The current European Champions Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen delivered the first point to their country by beating Yoo/Ko in straight games 21-10, 21-12. Then Jan Ø. Jørgensen lost to Indian Open Superseries champion Wan Ho Shon in three close games.
In the last match of the day, former world champion Jonas Rasmussen with partner Joachim Fischer started very well against Lee Yong-Dae and Sa Rank-Kim by winning the opening game 21-11. The new Danish pair showed fantastic badminton. But after the intervall the Koreans came back very strong and dominated the match from then on.
Congratulations to Denmark for winning the bronze medal!
